ABOUT GUWAHATI
Guwahati is the largest city of Assam and Northeastern India, a major riverine port city and one of the fastest growing cities in India, situated on the South Bank of the Brahmaputra River.

TRAVEL DETAILS
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is located just on the outskirts of the city of Guwahati and is well connected to other parts of the country by road, rail or air. There are direct air services from/to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Kolkata with connectivity to all major cities in the country and direct train services from/to all the metropolis and other major cities. Air India, Jet Airways, Jetlite, Kingfisher, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir operate regular flights to and from Guwahati. The flight information can be found at yatra.com or at makemytrip.com. IIT Guwahati is around 20km from the heart of the city and around 40 minute drive from the airport. From Guwahati Airport:

In the Arrival Lounge (inside Airport), there is a prepaid taxi counter. You can book and take a prepaid taxi to IIT Guwahati. The taxi fare is 550 INR approximately.

From Guwahati Railway Station:

WEATHER OF ASSAM
The climate of Assam is typically tropical monsoon rainfall type, with high levels of humidity and heavy rainfall. People here enjoy a moderate climate all throughout the year, with warm summers and mild winters. In the monsoon season, the whole state comes alive with the beauty of nature. Climatic variations can be seen regionally. While the plains of Assam have a tropical climate with high humidity, the hills have a sub-alpine type of climate. There are four distinct seasons in Assam - summer, monsoon, autumn and winter. The best time to visit the place is the winter season i.e. from October to April, which is also the festive season of Assam. INSTITUTE BUS SERVICES
Institute Bus service is available from both Guwahati City to Insitute and from Institute to Guwahati City. IIT Guwahati runs buses from Guwahati city to IITG campus at regular intervals. The designated stop is in front of Hotel President in Panbazar. The bus schedule is avalible here.

FERRY SERVICES IN BRAHMAPUTRA RIVER
The Indian Water Transport of Guwahati division currently has fifteen operational passenger ferries plying in Guwahati providing regular service between Guwahati and North Guwahati. However due to climatic variations in Northeast India it is not recommended to take ferry services. The ferry timings can be found here.
